Wetting a Hook![]() Sevier County offers a wide variety of fishing opportunities. Most waters are open to year round fishing, 24 hours a day. A State fishing license is required and may be purchased from a number of sporting goods stores locally. Be sure to refer to a copy of the current Utah Fishing Proclamation prior to fishing. Please note that the following fishing options are but a few of the highlights. FISH LAKEThis 2,500 acre lake is one of the premier trout fisheries in the state of Utah. Located at an elevation of 8,800 feet and with an average depth of 70 feet, the waters are clear and cold. Fish Lake is stocked with rainbow, trout, lake trout and splake together with supporting a wild brown trout population. The lake is normally frozen from January until April when ice fishing is very popular. Lodging, boat launch and guide services are available.JOHNSON RESERVOIRThis 700 acre reservoir is located about three miles north east of Fish Lake and is known for brook trout that migrate from Sevenmile Creek. Fish average 10-14 inches in length. The reservoir is open for ice fishing although access during the winter months is usually by snow mobile or cross-country skis.SEVENMILE CREEKThis scenic mountain stream flows into Johnson Valley Reservoir following Forest Road 640. The stream is easily accessible by passenger car during the summer months with the creek offering good cutthroat and brook trout. Sevenmile is managed by the state of Utah as a wild trout stream so it is not stocked.GOOSEBERRYThe Gooseberry area is located east of Salina along Interstate 70 (exit 61). This scenic area includes a number of lakes at elevations of over 9,000 feet. A few of the lakes include Gates Lake, Hamilton Reservoir, Farnsworth Reservoir, and the Gooseberry Campground - all of which are connected with a trail system. The area offers a variety of trout, both wild and stocked, depending on the reservoir.SALINA CREEKFor the most part, Salina Creek flows south along Interstate 70 toward Salina. The creek supports wild cutthroat and rainbow trout, with fish generally between 10 and 12 inches in length. The lower portion of the creek is stocked with rainbow and brown trout.BIG LAKELocated east of Glenwood, Big Lake can be reached in a passenger car, although the road includes a few fairly steep spots. Big Lake is stocked with catchable size rainbow trout, which can grow to over a pound by the end of each summer. The 35 acre lake cannot sustain fish during the colder months and the level may fluctuate during the summer as water is released for irrigation.MONROE CREEKMonroe Creek is located several miles southeast of Monroe and is stocked with catchable sized rainbow trout in its lower end with wild rainbows available further up. Most fish are small, generally less than ten inches long.CLEAR CREEKLocated along paved Highway 4 in Clear Creek Canyon, the waterway is easily accessible during most of the year. The creek is managed as a wild rainbow and brown trout fishery. In the lower parts of the canyon, it is possible to catch brown trout over three pounds. |
