On the Forest


Sevier County offers numerous opportunities for camping, biking, hiking and other outdoor activities in the Fish Lake National Forest as well as the red rock hills of the Pahvant Mountain Range.

FISH LAKE BASIN

The Fish Lake Basin offers numerous camping opportunities close to Fish Lake. Campgrounds include Doctor Creek, Twin Creeks, Mackinaw, Bowery Creek and Frying Pan. Facilities at the sites include tables, fire rings, water, restrooms and showers, dump stations and garbage bins. The camping season for the Fish Lake Basin is Memorial Day to Labor Day each year. For those interested in using established camping areas in the Fish Lake Basin, reservations can be made by calling (877) 444-6777. Please note that ATVs are not allowed within the Fish Lake Basin.

ON YOUR BIKE

Sevier County stretches across several geologic areas, including valleys, high plateaus and mountain ranges. Elevations range from 5,200 feet to 11,000 feet. Summer daytime temperatures range from the 80's to the 90's in the valleys with the mountains and plateaus somewhat colder. Dirt roads and trails in the high country usually open in mid-May and by mid-June the trails are generally clear of snow. Paved routes and some dirt roads are available all year round at lower elevations. Biking trails can be found throughout the County with specific ride information available by calling (800) 662-8898.

ROUGHING IT!

You may choose to find your own camp site within the boundaries of the Fishlake National Forest. Please remember to "leave no trace" and be aware of fire regulations that may be in effect from year to year depending on water conditions.

HUNTING

Sevier County offers some of the best big game hunting in the state of Utah. It is, however, necessary to draw a tag through the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources to hunt deer, elk or any other big game animal in the area. SNOWMOBILE

In an average year, snow has fallen in upper elevations of the Fishlake National Forest by mid-January allowing snowmobile enthusiasts to enjoy the splendor that winter offers on the forest. Call (800) 662-8898 to check snow totals in a given year.

ON A WALK-ABOUT

Opportunities to hike areas of Sevier County are plentiful. A number of trails can be accessed at or near Fish Lake with trail maps available at the Fishlake National Forest office in Richfield at 115 East 900 North or by calling (435) 896-9233.

Big Rock Candy Mountain located near Marysvale offers guided nature and wildlife hiking opportunities as well as directions to plenty more "on your own" walks. For information, call (888) 560 ROCK.

For visitors who are interested in combining history with a local hike, Fremont Indian State Park has a number of trails adorned with petroglyphs and pictographs drawn by the Fremont Indians over 1,000 years ago.
